In memory of Catriona Fathers 29th November, 1996 – 4th April, 2003

At St. John’s School, we hold a special place in our hearts for Catriona Fathers, a former pupil who was part of our Reception Class. Sadly, Catriona was diagnosed with a Wilms tumour during her time with us and, despite undergoing various treatments, she passed away at the age of six.
Both the school and Catriona’s parents have worked closely together to ensure her memory remains a cherished part of our school community. Catriona is lovingly remembered in our school prayer, which all pupils learn by heart and recite regularly during class and whole-school prayer time. We have also created a beautiful memorial garden at the back of the hall — a peaceful space dedicated to Catriona’s memory.
Each year, we honour Catriona’s love of writing by holding a school-wide writing competition. This event celebrates her creativity and passion for storytelling, and we are incredibly grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Fathers, who generously provide book tokens for the winners in every year group.
This year’s competition was inspired by the shared book 'Change Sings' — an uplifting story that encouraged our pupils to explore poetry and embrace the power of words. We are so proud of all the children who took part and are delighted to announce this year’s winners:
Arianna (Year 6) — Overall Winner
Mariella (Year 5)
Mila (Year 4)
Elodie (Year 3)
Lily (Year 2)
Ava (Year 1)
Ysabel (Reception)
Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who participated. Your words and creativity are a beautiful tribute to Catriona’s lasting legacy at St. John’s School.
